If I had a time machine and could go back to my younger self – the one who was obsessed with how her body looked and believed that her worth was tied to her size and therefore manipulated her food choices to eat as little as possible so as to be as small as possible – I would want to say to her…
You are missing the whole point of your life.
The whole f*cking point.
Do you really think you were put on this planet to worry about your weight?
Don’t you have bigger, more important things to do?
Can’t you see that if you tie your worth to how you look you’re NEVER going to feel enough… because there will always be the next thing the next flaw to fix, the next diet to try.
Your worth is not determined by your appearance but by who you are and the impact you have on the world.
Then I’d ask her to imagine it’s the end of her life… we’re looking at her gravestone and we’re listening to what the people at her funeral are saying (just like when Scrooge gets the chance to glimpse his future in A Christmas Carol).
Are any of them saying, “Miranda was so great, she had the flattest stomach. She was so thin”?
Is that what I want to be remembered for? UMMM NO!
I don’t reckon it’s what you want to be remembered for either… so why are you allowing thoughts (more accurately lies) about your body distract you from your present?
I can’t, of course, go back to give my younger self a new perspective … so instead I’m sharing it with you in this week’s Positive Nutrition Podcast.
